Hiking Marathon

Kids Activities

Every year Friends of the Trails wants to help the next generation become nature-friendly hikers. We have several ways to make hiking more fun and educational!

  • LNT: OVERVIEW DESCRIPTION Leave No Trace guidelines to keep nature as unchanged as possible.
  • TRAIL AND MILES TRACKER PRINTABLE to take with you on your hikes!
  • HIKER BINGO PRINTABLE Kids 12 and under can bring to the Hit the Trails Festival to claim a free gift bag!
  • MORE IDEAS of fun activities for young hikers.
  • PHOTO CONTEST

Hints for Parents

1. Take a pencil or crayon and the HIKER bingo sheet on each hike.

2. After a trail, color in as many footsteps as miles you hiked and the trail sign on the TRACKER sheet.

3. Read the MORE IDEAS page to add more games to the hike!

4. PHOTO CONTEST: Let your child take photos of something amazing, funny, or beautiful on the hike to enter into the contest! Email one favorite by Sept 25th to annamargaret.tn@gmail.com along with their name and age (notate “private” if you don’t want that shared).

5. Read the LNT page to your children before hiking and encourage them to observe and admire the world around them!

We hope you enjoy hiking these trails and remind you to hike responsibly:

  • please stay on the trail and respect private property in residential communities
  • carry plenty of water (and snacks) at all times
  • use bug-spray and sunscreen
  • watch your step – it is easy to twist an ankle on rocks and tree roots
  • pets are permitted on all trails, but please pick up after your dog!
  • “Leave only footprints, take only pictures!”
